I have not posted here in a while. I know I’m a little late for a 2016 review, sorry! Anyway, it was a great year, got to spend some great time with great friends and family.
I started spending the holidays in the Caribbean. First was my first visit to Cuba. I was with my family and I did not have a extraordinary amount of time to get out and herp, but I still found some great stuff.
I’ll start with Havana. My family and I had a wonderful 3 days in the city. We found the people and food to be incredible.
Like I said, I did not have a lot of time to go herping, but I did manage to find some fun stuff. This was all around Havana.

Next up was a January tour to Panama and Peru. I’ve been leading tours to the Amazon for many years now for MT Amazon Expeditions (Margarita Tours). I was very excited for this years tours as some of my best friends were making the trip with me. It was a GREAT group and we found some incredible stuff. We got 100 species of herps, including 2 Lachesis. As I’m writing this, I recently returned from our 2017 tour, which was just as successful. If you have any interest in tour, we have openings for January 2018. Mike Pingleton and I will be the trip leaders on this tour. Check out our website or Facebook page for information, or feel free to Email me:

Just incredible diversity Matt! Too many awesome herps to comment on everything I liked. Those that stood out to me included the Amazon forest dragon, the coral pipe snake, the huge Cribo, the hatchling Florida kingsnake, and all the San Diego herps of course.
Thanks for taking the time to put such a long post together! I know it can take forever.
Looking forward to seeing what you find in 2017...

Thanks a bunch Jeff! I wish I had more time with the kingsnake, it was too rushed. Just a short jaunt to San Diego in 2016, and I have another short trip there scheduled this year too. Love it there! Jeroen, you have produced some incredible posts as well. And, by the way, I got your book and I love it! I am going to Europe next year with my family (not a herping trip, but I'll still be able to get out a bit!). Your book will be by my side! Congratulations on that thing, a LOT of work!
Thanks Nick!
Thanks a bunch Josh!
