Ill be down in new New Braunfels this weekend for work, but will have some time to spend herping, wondering if there are any good locations near there to see any herps?

Go east, rather than west. There are cool herps in the hill country, but it is a tough place to herp in general.
You will probably see more if you head east of town somewhere. Unfortunately, being Texas there isn't any public land to herp really and there aren't really any state parks close to New Braunfels. Palmetto State Park is pretty cool and about 45 minutes east of town. If you would rather try the Hill Country (tough herping!), Guadalupe River State Park is about 45 minutes the other direction.

Of course, Landa Park in New Braunfels itself has an endemic aquatic spring salamander species that can't be seen anywhere else. Depends on what your interests are.

You've piqued my curiosity. What salamander would that be? I can't find anything on google about a new braunfels salamander.
