Found this alpine salamander on the crawl while doing some early morning trekking, moved it about 1/2 a meter for the photo.

Some great shots there Rye and Anton.
Here is one from the other day, a common but popular herp in Australia.

Lots of great photos here!
Here is one of my personal favorites. It is not a beautiful landscape, but gray treefrogs love to live in this dumpster in the summer. There are lots of flies and other insects, so perhaps they are drawn by the food?

Salamandra salamandra, in Trentino region, North Italy. Shot in a humid and shady canyon. I'm sorry I know the pic is out of focus a little bit
Podarcis muralis brugemanni near Riva del Garda town, Trentino region, northern Italy.
Wall lizards living in less anthropized areas, like in the woods, are much smaller than those who lives inside cities.
In cities they have less predators and they can grow bigger, in the woods and in more natural areas they are hunted by whip snakes (Hierophis carbonarius), smooth snakes (Coronella austriaca) and other animals.

Furthermore, I'm the proud new owner of a FX format camera, the D810! Thank you to everyone that participated in the discussion it helped me muster up my courage and take the plunge. Haven't had a chance to take it out for a test run yet as its a ridiculously busy time but soon!

Re: Herps in habitat - photo thread
Incredible in-habitat shots being shared by everyone. Here is one of my favorite shots from this year (so far). A Sonoran gopher snake (Pituophis catenifer affinis) from the bootheel of NM. A rather common snake, but still one of my favorite species to encounter in the field. Sonoran Gopher Snake in Habitat by Frank Portillo, on Flickr
Re: Herps in habitat - photo thread
Been having fun with this type of shot lately. I'm sure some of you all have some new shots to share since this thread settled down. Here is my most recent from 2 days back.

Re: Herps in habitat - photo thread
You all have some very impressive photos. My grismer-style photography definitely could use some work, but here are a couple from AZ:
Gila:

Trimorphodon lambda (Sonoran Lyresnake):
Trimorphodon lambda (Sonoran Lyresnake) by wyman.jules, on Flickr
And here are a couple very old in habitat photos taken with a crappy point and shoot that I actually think came out decently:
Thamnophis cyrtopsis cyrtopsis (Western Black-necked Gartersnake):

Heterodon kennerlyi:
Neonate Heterodon kennerlyi (Mexican Hognose Snake) and habitat by wyman.jules, on Flickr\ }{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252
My best in habitat shots are probably some recent ones I got of a cerberus in the Rincon Mountains, if I get around to uploading and editing those soon I'll post them here.
All best,
Jules
