Anybody in Cheney WA? Bull snake question
I just saw a pic of an awesome sayi from Cheney WA and would like to see other pic's of animals from that area to compare. Thanks in advance.

No P.c.sayi in Washington. That would be P.c.deserticola, the Great Basin gopher.

I stand corrected. I just looked on the range map on World Pituophis site and shows that you are correct. Thanks for educating me. Regardless the animal in the pic on the wiki page is very cool looking. Almost a unicolor animal. Thanks again.......BTW, are you a pituophis enthusiast?

Re: Anybody in Cheney WA? Bull snake question
All of the ones I have found around Cheney looked like average Great Basin gopher snakes.
But the one on Wikipedia does look like a bullsnake, a lot of them a little north and northwest of there do. They also tend to get large.

I concur with Mike. The only pits I have seen in the Cheney area are 100% desericola, but the ones you find North of the Little Spokane River are definitely much different than the typical deserticola. IDK, maybe the differences are due to environment?

I found a bullish rascal at Turnbull NWR just outside of Cheney. Not as much as the snake on wiki, but I think there is definitely sayi influence in northeastern washington, and some of the snakes I've found near CDL Udaho looked more like bulls.

Andy,
I usually get flamed but.... dare we say Cantifer/Sayi intergrade?

Re: Anybody in Cheney WA? Bull snake question
sayi is a subspecies of catenifer, like deserticola, so yes intergrade, probably, at least the visual diagnostics seems to fit, slightly different blotch count, body build, and slight rostral scale differences, but I don't know if we could call them full bullsnakes, even though I have before.

Ooops,
Yeah (P. c. deserticola/sayi)*
