Some may recall my previous posts this June which included a collection of many of my herp images from my previous Guyana trips (http://www.fieldherpforum.com/forum/vie ... lit=Guyana, http://www.fieldherpforum.com/forum/vie ... lit=Guyana, http://www.fieldherpforum.com/forum/vie ... lit=Guyana). Since June I have returned two more times, once this summer for my own personal research, and then again in October as the herpetologist for my third Biodiversity Assessment Team expedition with Global Wildlife Conservation/World Wildlife Fund-Guianas. I had far less time for photography on these expeditions, especially in situ shots, but did the best that I could. I hope you guys appreciate the shots on white as well!
Instead of separating posts into taxa or region, I'm just going to put everything below. Hope you enjoy!

Guyana-End of the Year wrap up (Warning LOTS OF IMAGES)

Re: Guyana-End of the Year wrap up (Warning LOTS OF IMAGES)
Amazing post, great animals, but I was actually most pleased with the habitat/landscape shots, as most posts from south america tend not to include any - these were fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you liked them. I certainly have plenty more habitat/landscape shots but figured I'd give just a taste.Ruxs wrote:Amazing post, great animals, but I was actually most pleased with the habitat/landscape shots, as most posts from south america tend not to include any - these were fantastic. Very nice! I really appreciate that your in the field shots have some background detail. So often pictures from the tropics have that pitch black, dead of night look to them. Yours are a refreshing change from that, plus they are very nicely composed!

Outstanding! I'm also a big fan of those landscapes shots (as well as the rest, of course), as I'm guilty of what Ruxs pointed out. Not always easy to make these shots in dense jungle, so more praise to you!

Great stuff! Were you collecting specimens or tissues as well as photos?

- I was in fact, that's the main reason I go to Guyana, though the photography has become an important gig for me too now. I actually just got back the other day from depositing two collecting trips worth to the Smithsonian.mfb wrote:Great stuff! Were you collecting specimens or tissues as well as photos?

Just wonderful! It's hard to top a Lachesis, but that Hypsiboas boans "nest" is an awesome thing to see.
Great photos - those little blackwater creeks really call to me

Thanks Mike! I agree, it really is hard to top Lachesis, I was really fortunate to get good tissue samples of them this summer. The one in the pic, shed scales from another, and a hatched nest as well (babies long gone). The boans' nests are always cool, I've seen them in so many different substrates now-sand, mud, leaves in rivers stuck along logs-they are always impressive!

Amazing post Andrew. The False Coral and Slender legged frog are incredible, but the Bushmaster is the 'absolute' of all snakes. So much variation in coloration from the few specimens I have seen posted here on FHF. For such a well known snake, at least historically speaking, I can not think of but a few times I have actually seen them posted here. Thanks.

Thanks Andy and Josh!
They are always an absolute for me! It's probably the only species I still get butterflies with whenever I encounter one. They are quite variable, from pale tan to deep orange. Glad that I can help keep the posting numbers rising!walk-about wrote:Amazing post Andrew. The False Coral and Slender legged frog are incredible, but the Bushmaster is the 'absolute' of all snakes. Awesome stuff! The boa on the edge of the waterhole The pipa And the inclusion of turtles and crocodilians are the cherry on top of an already great post.

Thanks Mike! I'm sure I have a few more turtle images, I'm just so far behind on image editing.Mike VanValen wrote:Awesome stuff! The boa on the edge of the waterhole The pipa And the inclusion of turtles and crocodilians are the cherry on top of an already great post.

To say your posts are amazing, inspiring, and that I am insanely jealous of what you are able to do to pay the bills falls short of the truth. Looks like a great time. Thanks again for sharing. Someday I need to figure out a way to get down there.
