Costa Rica Invertebrates
Hello all, I wanted to share some photos of some of the invertebrates I have encountered over my last 5 trips to Costa Rica. Considering I know next to nothing about identifying invertebrates in this area, this will be a lot of photos with very little commentary or descriptions.
Opening out with a close up of a dragonfly from Manuel Antonio
I have no idea what these are but they look pretty neat
They seem to be enjoying some fungus
A large net casting spider, always among my favorite spiders to find
Another spider species
A large cockaroach out on a trail
A leaf mimic katydid
And a katydid having a very bad day with a spider
A very brightly colored cicada
Fresh out from its larval form
A pretty planarian
A close up of a large spider, I think possible a type of wandering spider
An emerging dragonfly
A really neat looking little bug
More of the same little weird invert on a separate trip
Neat little grasshopper
A well camoflauged spider
More spiders
A large katydid
A morpho that has seen better days
These little guys were really interesting to find
A smaller net casting spider
A wandering spider close up
This awesome katydid was one of my favorites
I think this is a Halloween crab
Another interesting crab
Wandering spider with egg mass
A nice millipede
A scorpion in Guanacaste
Scorpion eating another scorpion, I think mating gone wrong
A horde of ants devouring a scorpion
Blue morpho
A spider eating a baby red eye tree frog
Butterflies, I don’t know the species
Longhorn beetle
Ants living in an acacia tree
A very ambitious scorpion taking a moth
Zebra longwings
A small tarantula
An emerging dragonfly
A fishing spider taking a moth along a river
Another spider
I wasn’t sure if this spider was eating another spider or a molt
An emerging cicada
A very prickly looking caterpillar
This interesting little bug, someone identified it previously but I forgot
This is one of my favorite scorpion photos
A large grasshopper
And a smiley face beetle to wrap it up!
So those are my favorite invert photos from Costa Rica over 5 trips, I hope you enjoyed and sorry for the lack of identification on them! Hope you enjoyed, and if you want to see more please check my website www.ChrisGillette.com
