Toad ID

Post by Rancorrye »

At first I thought this was a Woodhouse Toad (Anaxyrus woodhousii), but the more I look at it I'm leaning toward Arizona Toad (Anaxyrus microscaphus)
What are your thoughts? Anybody know for sure?

Found in Washington Co. UT. Sorry this is the only crummy picture I got.

I'm sure there's someone on here who can probably glance at it and tell you but I would say A. microscaphus because of the characters I can see in the picture:

- no (or very indistinct) cranial crests
- relatively smooth skin without dark spots
- indistinct stripe down the back

But I'm an east coaster so I'm just reading this stuff out of a book and am no expert on western toads! :?

I also concur on the microscaphus Id. Note that microscaphus can be quite variable and they do hybridize with woodhouse toads in some areas.
