NJ Meadowlands question

Post by ebit123 »

Driving down to Monmouth County next weekend (planning on checking out tine nearby pine Barrens while down there)....anyway I remember years ago going to some trails in the Meadowlands. Wondering if it's worth it to stop there on b the drive down, if we are primarily interested in snakes, or if the water is too brackish.. thanks,

The Meadowlands is a great birding spot, and I used to go a lot as a kid, but I don't remember ever seeing a snake there. They probably have a few water snakes, maybe garters and browns and stuff, but it's not at all the kind of place I would bother to herp. There's salt marsh, tidal mudflats, and a massive old landfill, but not much in the way of herping habitat that I can tell.
