We live in SE Wisconsin and would love to compare notes with folks who have observed leucistic Opossums in their neck of the woods.
We were utterly amazed and thrilled when a pregnant leucistic female Opossum showed up unexpectedly on May 20, 2015.
Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in peculiar white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures. Note that her ears, eyes and tail retain their normal pigmentation.
