Perdido Key Beach Mice

Post by simus343 »

The title says it. These were part of a breed and release program for the Perdido Key Beach Mice. They are two males, now too old to reproduce. They spent their lives in captivity, and so have been donated to the educational facility on the property where I work. So here are the only pics I got before this one scurried back down into his elaborate burrow system:

Very cute!

I used to keep a colony of another Peromyscus polionotus subspecies, P. p. subgriseus (oldfield mice), not at all endangered nor as cute, but still quite adorable and interesting. I'll have to look around and see if I have any pictures from back then to share.
