Somewhat attractive Akansas beetle

Another fascinating part of field herping, along with all the other natural wonders we encounter, is the invertebrates! This forum is dedicated to both field and captive invertebrates.

Somewhat attractive Akansas beetle

Post by gcsnelling » June 24th, 2018, 3:22 am

One of the most attractive buprestids in the United States. Took me a while to get a picture of one as they tend to fly off at the speed of light. Managed to capture and chill this one.

Buprestis rufipes.

Ya need to put a sparrow next to it for size comparison.

I don't know about big but there are enough mosquitoes and chiggers so you can't tell the difference.
