Bugs Making Bugs?

Post by Noah M »

I have no clue what these are, but I think I know what they were doing. They were each about 1" long. This is one of my first attempts at some serious in the field macro photography, so pardon for the low quality images. Any guesses as to what they are and what they're doing?

They are centipedes. They're myriopods, not bugs. My guess is either combat or reproducing like you suggesting.

I was using the informal form of bug. Yeah, I suppose fighting could fit too. It's funny to me to think what they're doing could be, what many of us would think to be, two totally opposite things.

I see two pairs of legs per segment and on something that long I would think it would equate to THOUSANDS of legs...

Okay, so they're millipedes. Maybe even from the Paradoxosomatidae family. Maybe even Oxidus gracilis. Centipede, millipede, insect, worm, fluke, whatever, they're all bugs to me :P Can't go wrong with the all inclusive informal term.

Naming issues aside, I'm interested in knowing what these millipedes are doing. Anybody know if its love or war?
