My son found a dead Sphinx last night in Key Largo, FL. (He told me "it was in better shape until clumsy Momma accidentally stepped on it.) This is all I've got...wingspan looks to have been around 3 inches.
Any help is good help.

It's an Oh boy sphinx? Lifer.
To me the lower wing resembles Giant hawk moth. I've seen dozens of them over the years but none were this small. (That's why I was curious.)

Re: ID please?
It is obviously Crackysphinx partsi. Maybe something like Erinnyis obscura (Fabricius, 1775), or Erinnyis alope (Drury, 1770). I would say it is definitely belongs to the genus Erinnyis but the condition of the specimen is a bit rough for a positive Id.

Thanks Gordon. I was/am curious regarding the lower wing. Our Ello sphinx down here seem to be as uniform as they come. (Every one I've ever seen looked exactly like the one before it...Pale gray upper wings and reddish/orange lower wings.)
