first confirmed copperhead sighting for myself

Post by davhug1 »

Finally saw my first confirmed copperhead on a bike trail in pa. Seen similar snakes in the past, wasnt sure if it was a northern waterImage or milk, no doubt with this beauty. Very exciting.

Nice copperhead. the copperheads I've seen have way less girth than that.Cottomouths are the moccasins i see that fat. Not copperheads.

This place where this was taken, i do alot of trail riding, your much more likely to see timbers here, then copperheads in my opinion. I saw several rattlers this summer here, all beautiful. Maybe its a luck thing, or its like that everywhere. I'm just glad i saw one.

If that wasn't seen in the late fall or early winter I'd say it looks gravid???

Even timbers are more muscular than the copperheads i see.

Are you under the impression that Timbers are supposed to be scrawny? I've head Timbers while tubed, and pound for pound, I think they are just as muscular, if not more so, than some of the pythons I have held of the same size.

Hah! not the timbers, the copperheads. the timbers and cottonmouths were comparisons. Not scrawney like a ribbon or whipsnake.

You said "even timbers are more muscular than the copperheads I see". It seems to imply that you expect timbers to not be muscular, or at least less muscular than copperheads.

do coppers eat snakes like cottons do? if so, this may explain the large girth. either that, or this particular snake has been hitting the hot-pockets way too much.
