Good to be back

Post by Joe Mahoney »

The cliff notes version of my post from 6-5 with a few added photos.

I took my 4 and 6 year olds out for a quick hike Saturday morning. Didn't see a lot but as we were walking down a trail my 4 year old son yells "Dad Milksnake!". I didn't believe him, but he was right.

It was a big old male Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum

We also flipped this Ambystoma opacum. They are threatened species in MA and this is the second recorded from this town. Last year we recorded the first.

I went back on Sunday and checked out the crevice. There were at least two more adult milks in the crevice. I stuck around long enough for one to poke its head out before seeing me and retreating.

Could this possibly be a den site and they are just emerging now, or just a coincidence that they all congregated in this area to shed? I'm glad my son noticed the milk as I've walked by this spot many many times without noticing anything before.

A few hundred yards away

This Coluber constrictor constrictor was under this cover the last time I was at this spot.

A few more recent from the area

Thanks Pete. I've really just started getting out myself. Drop me a pm if you ever plan on getting out this way.

I went out today. Before the sky opened up I managed to find a bunch of stuff, then I got caught in the rain about a couple miles from the truck.

A few milk shots from today.

A good size earthtone colored male.
