FIRST TIMBER RATTLESNAKE! Oh, the excitement!

Post by HerperChance »

My and my buddy Coty went on a early morning trip to hike in the Pisgah National Forest, He had seen a rattlesnake there before and I was beating myself up for not going on the previous trip, so this time I said lets go early and road cruise! We were on our way to a favorite trail, and BAM i saw something out of the corner of my eye! "RATTLESNAKE!" I yelled. My heart pounded and adrenaline was pumping a mile a minute. My first Timber rattlesnake was laying right there! It is an amazing experience to be in the presence of one of Gods deadly beautiful creations! I must say it was a blast! :thumb: :thumb: I hope you share my excitement, let me know what you think :), I got a few satisfactory pictures with my little cannon point and shoot. I had found a timber before but it was in an inaccessible rock crack.

It didn't even strike once! It just wanted to get out of there, People give these snakes such a bad rep.

Nice find. Timbers are great snakes.

P.s. Should wear shoes in venomous snake territory, especially when looking for them!

Great feeling, huh? Congratulations. You'll always remember that snake. By the way, where did you get that sweet stump ripper?

I have found just a few shy of 100 of them, and let me assure you, it is just as exciting now as is was the first time. What an amazing animal. Nice job telling the story, and VERY NICE JOB using a hook and not tailing/holding it. A lot of kids your age make the mistake of being reckless with these animals.

Keep up the good herping!

I don't know how many I've seen now, but I'm always excited to see a Timber Rattler. I saw 17 in one day once at various locations, and each was a thrill. Congrats to what will be a life long love affair with these amazing animals.

I saw one over the weekend is Pisgah as well, and it could have possibly been the same road that you were on as well. Congrats on your first one, that's a nice looking snake.
