High desert trip...with kids

Post by Csharp »

This was a long and arduous trip, with only one live snake being found, lack of sleep, and screaming toddlers; but the kids had fun, saw some cool herps, and overall, it was a success.

Here I am with the only snake of the trip, and nice looking Great basin Gopher snake,

Here I am with the snake and Crew(minus their dad, he's playing photographer). From Left to right it's Anthony, Alyssa, Myself, Caleb, Alexis, and Wendel!(the snake was getting a bit aggressive, hence my hilarious facial expression!)

We Found a Desert horned lizard on our way to look for chucks and collards, here are several shots of it and the kids holding it,

Here's the first collard lizard, a nice adult male,

We finally caught some chucks

Didn't see any of these this trip,

We headed to the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest; it was cool, but not worth the $5(only one room). Pics of us being bored,

The next morning we found a cool spider(trap door?) near our camp,

We also found a coastal horned lizard(these guys always squirt blood on my shirt!)

Caleb helped me catch a nice male desert spiny lizard

Even baby chucks can bite hard!

Wendel's going to finish the post with his "Iron Man" pose!

Thanks for looking,

Those high desert gophers are some of the best looking around. The spider is probably a Kukulcania species.
