2010 Goals Thread

Post by FunkyRes »

There was a 2010 goals thread.
I had it bookmarked, so I could update my progress.
This is a reproduction - but I don't know other peoples goals.

My goals for 2010 -

*) Enter 3 lifers into naherp (I'm at 2 now)
*) Enter 5 cal species I've never entered before into naherp - Goal Met
*) 5 naherp county records - Goal Met
*) Enter records from 10 counties into naherp (I'm at 4 now)
*) Enter 20 distinct taxon from Shasta County - Goal Met
*) Enter 25 distinct taxon from anywhere - Goal Met
*) Find everything I found last year:
- Species level, I just need R aurora, T atratus, E coerulea
- sub level, add T atratus zaxanthus, T sirtalis pickeringii, E coerulea (shasta X northwest intergrade)

My long term goals (take years) -

*) 30 distinct taxon from Shasta County (22 now all years)
*) 30 distinct taxon from Contra Costa County (16 now all years)
*) Every member of Amerana subgenus (Rana boylii group) - (4 of 8 currently)
*) Every Rattlesnake species in CA (I only have Norcal presently)
*) Every ensatina morph group, both distinct species / subspecies and intergrade zones (Only have Oregon X Sierra presently)

The following record does not count towards my goal:
1) 45285 - I only entered record, did not make the find

See at least 120 distinct species and enter them into naherp.com by August. I'm at something like 97 now, but I have 13 or 14 more that I've vouchered in the last two weeks that I need to enter.

I had more goals, but I forgot most of them. Here are a few:

Find a Western Toad in the LA Basin - already succeeded!
Find a Flat-tailed Horned Lizard - failed so far, and probably am done trying
Get at least "X" lifers - I can't remember what my goal was, but I'm at 27 lifer species and 19 lifer subspecies, so I'm sure I surpassed it already :)

I tend to make detailed lists of goals early in the year, then lose track of them as the actual herping starts in earnest. I believe mine were:

- find every frog species in Georgia. This one's pretty much failed, since I again missed Wood Frogs and Mountain Chorus Frogs. I've seen plenty of Wood Frog tadpoles and heard brachyphona calling in Alabama, but yet to lay eyes on adults of either. Gopher Frogs might still be doable, but doubtful. I've heard calls, found plenty of tadpoles, and even found a DOR. I'll be heading out for River Frogs with the next good rain.

- find a rainbow snake - in progress, as it has been for several years

- get a southern hog in Georgia - completed, three times over, today.

And some others I forget and hence probably haven't accomplished. My main goal, as always, is to get out as much as possible and find as many cool critters as I can, and I think I'm progressing fairly well on that count.
