Yeah, that was just fantastic Will!
Re: Hanging out with Lizards in 2010
I really loved this throughout but thought the petrified wood shots were the coolest.
Re: Hanging out with Lizards in 2010
Absolutely stunning! Your time and efforts put forth in finding all these animals is recognized, for sure! Any post with Xantusia, is okay with me.
Thanks for sharing.

WOW! Some absolutely classic images of the Southwest - the chuckwalla with the petroglyphs, and the collareds on the petrified wood. And that baby solare is ridiculously cute! THANKS !!!!!!!!
Re: Hanging out with Lizards in 2010
Way cool! I loved seeing all that variation in colors on the Collared Lizards.
You seemed to find a heck of a lot of Gila Monsters this year as well.

This posts fails because of 2 reason...
I didn't see Crotaphytus dickersonae and Crotaphytus vestigium photos!
I jest, great shots Will. All the bicinctorres shots makes me wish I would have been able to get shots of the little male I saw last October.

Thanks for the kind words. It seems like lizards are easier to find but more difficult to get good photos of them. Though I posed several lizards in this post my favorites are of unposed lizards. The best way to get those shots are to go out in the field and hang out with them until they let you get close.

I would agree that in situ lizard shots are the best. Are you using a telephoto lens? Some of those ultra bright Eastern Collareds are off the hook! Apache Co. I'm guessing?

Re: Hanging out with Lizards in 2010
Awesome mega post, Will! One question arose as I was perusing the monster shots --- I noticed that two or three of them had damaged tail tips, and I've seen that myself with live ones too. Is there any specific predator (or whatever???) that tends to be the main cause of that injury in monsters?

Will,
Your shots are amazing! You really have a way of capturing the individual field moment. I don't suppose you regret moving to Arizona, do you?
Didn't think so. Incredible post. You are still King of the Collareds. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Great stuff, I always enjoy a good lizard post, and of course, I always enjoy your Crotaphytus shots! A post loaded with nothing but collared lizards from over the years would be awesome. Have you been out to see C. reticulatus or C. antiquus yet?

I agree that a collared lizard post would be really cool and I'm sure it will happen in the near future. Hopefully some day I can get down south to photo the above mentioned species along with a few other Crotaphytus species.

Re: Hanging out with Lizards in 2010
Will, you guys in AZ have some of the ugliest side-blotched lizards around.
Beyond that, this post is fantastic. The collared lizards were especially spectular. Thanks for sharing.
