new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Since we all have an opportunity to re-register I hope some of you choose to go by your real names. I think it actually works against the community when there are so many usernames. It is difficult to know who we are talking to or to build a perception of a poster as a person if they have a screen name that frequently changes.
This is just my opinion. Of course If it keeps you from registering, I'd rather see you on here as suboc123 or tricolor_curbmaster.

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Agreed. This is a prime opportunity to use your real name. I lost my online moniker after swapping from Kingsnake to Fieldherpers WAY back in the day! (geez, what was that, circa 2000? I have been on these forums too long.)
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
I thought about this too, but more people actually refer to me as brick now. I'd rather be called by my real name, but I felt I had built a reputation here that I was proud of (for the most part) and didn't want to lose that.
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Agreed. At least use your first or last names. It makes it easier when you meet someone in the field.
I think the name "Brian Hubbs" is still available...
(This is the third time I have tried to post a response. This new forum is very buggy...)

The reputation follows the person, even if the name changes. There is just a little transition time.

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
I could not agree more! It is so disappointing when people forget to take such a formal medium as an internet forum seriously, and they hide behind silly screen names and avatars to promote their silly thoughts and opinions.
We should all learn from Mr. Hubbs, who tags his mindless banter with his real name, whether it be on the internet or in traditional printed press.
Respectfully yours,
Dr. Franklin A. Gettleberg

I agree with this idea of using your real name and will lead by example, just don't expect me to disclose my previous screen name.

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
How can I change my registration name? I did that and then saw this post.
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Very valid suggestion but in my case it might seem cowardly to hide behind my real name ...but what about real mugshots rather than silly avatars?...geez, what am I saying? Yikes!

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
That is a good idea, I did it a long time ago and I can tell you it is a great way to directly ruin your own name instead of some made up name.

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Using a real name (either first name, last name or even both) sounds like a good idea. Using a photo of yourself would also be an improvement over using a cartoon character or a photo of a herp as your avatar. I just think it gives a little more creditability to the people posting here.

I would have done this had I seen this post before re-registering. But I will now sign all my posts with my real name.

Damn, I just realized that my new screen name doesn't reflect my freshly-minted "Dr." status. I guess I'll have to go back and re-register again.

I wish I had seen thi ost before I re-registered. I thought about quite a few people knowing me by RockRatt but IMMEDIATELY after I registered I wanted to use at least part of my real name and part of my username. I know Scott and Don are real busy but I did end a PM to change my username to RockRatt Rich Morgan. Thanks for thinking about this Jeremiah. Rich
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Feel free to call me FunkyRes in the field.
My real name is Michael Peters.
Michael isn't exactly an uncommon name though, FunkyRes is a little more unique

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Well I pretty much have always used my real name, but I dropped my birth year, since I have decided it's about time I stopped announcing it and started renouncing it. I some how forgot to put a space in there, but oh well it's not like there's another Andy O'Connor out chasing snakes very often.
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
I rather like the option of keeping the old user names for recognizability while adding your real name to your signature

whoa, you ain't kidding. This is a family forum Bill
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
I like that idea, as long as signatures are kept, which probably isn't a bad idea as long as people keep them brief and not full of huge images.krismunk wrote:I rather like the option of keeping the old user names for recognizability while adding your real name to your signature

Sigs were not allowed in the previous forum, but we'll leave it for now. In the past, they were not allowed. We'll give it a shot, though!

Thinking about it I can see why you might want to restrict their usage as overuse really can be an annoyance on several other fora. I like that you're trying it out though, so let's just hope people show reasonable restraint.
Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
I don't know if it is a standard phpbb admin option or requires hacking, but some forums allow them with a maximum number of characters and lines and do not allow images in them.scott wrote:Sigs were not allowed in the previous forum, but we'll leave it for now. I went thru the name change/info process and am still "Tbor." What am I doing wrong? (Do I have to put up an avatar for it to work?)tbor wrote:Tbor is now Tim Borski. 'Nice to be out of the closet...

Re: new registration suggestion: Use your real name.
Personally, this using your first name is fine, but I don't see the necessity to use our full names. The Internet is full of scammers and identity thieves. So I will do anything to reduce the probability of me becoming a victim. I know, I know, paranoid, whatever. That's just my take on it. My name is Bart and I live in Reno....
Good enough?

Yeah why not. G-natrix was a dumb over-complicated pun that nobody got anyway.
