Ribbon Snakes highlighted my latest trip

Post by AlwaysInTheWoods »

Did a tour of a few spots in South Jersey on Monday and while the day was pretty slow overall for herping, we found 2 Ribbon Snakes at the end of the day!
Here's some pics of diff't highlights throughout the day.

We rain into this sharp Spring Peeper at about 9:30AM which is only the 3rd daytime peeper I've found

Saw a few DB Terrapins throughout the day

A Mourning Cloak butterfly was a nice surprise for June

This Seaside Dragonlet was one of many we saw throughout the day:

Our first Ribbon Snake:

And our 2nd Ribbon Snake we found was in the process of shedding, which was really cool to see!

Notice the shed in the front and to the left of the snake:

And a Great Egret at sunset:

That's really cool. I still can't believe I've never seen a ribbon snake. The shedding snake would be awesome to watch.

Gongrats on the find! Up here Ribbons can be a real pain to locate and we've been putting a lot of effort into finding new populations or confirming the continued existence of historic ones but so far the only snakes we can find are at the few sites we've known about for ages.

Bob, come to me.

edit: try to interpret that statement in a non-creepy way.

Brick you've probably missed more ribbons then you know because they've b-lined it into the water before you even knew they were there....

Gyri.... Uhhh. Actually, I'd love to make it up that way some day. If I ever do, you'll be getting a call.

Marc... It is of no help herping with kids either. No matter how many times I tell them not to run ahead of me, I might as well just be telling them to clean their rooms. :x
