I read about a more yellow locality of desert striped whipsnake as well as the shasta alligator lizard (a northern alligator subspecies) in a sacred field guide and went out to try and find them in March of 2017 with my wife Beth. It was a busy trip with all the hiking and driving we needed to pack into about 5 days time. It is true our snake species diversity is limited in the pacific northwest, but with localities I can stretch things even further and show a few more (hopefully interesting) variations which I hope to get into more in the future. In any case its a brief look at the beauty of southwestern Oregon and northwestern California.
