Best Month For Arizona and Lizards?

Mid May will be a good time for herps of all types. Try to hike in early morning or late afternoon and I'm sure you'll see lots of cool stuff. I've had great success with AZ lizards with exceptionally little effort.
I cannot help you with the banded gecko question. In my experience, they are easy to find via flipping or night hiking.

(The only other gecko is the invasive house gecko, which I'm sure you'll see around the hotel you're staying at haha)

Re: Best Month For Arizona and Lizards?
I might back it up a few weeks. Depends on the elevation and latitude you want to hit. But based on your targets (all of which I consider quite cold-tolerant) it would do you no harm to go earlier than you are thinking. My reasoning is, you're playing around with it getting real hot, which will drive your targets underground until July. If you go far enough west and far enough downhill, you could push it back a month easy. An unlucky dry cold front is all you'd need to worry about. For some moisture, a lot of desert animals will tolerate chilly overcast. You'd be amazed what will be on the crawl or just basking at burrow entrances at 65F or lower, if there's any moisture. Or even just some humidity, as evidenced by overcast skies. And for desert flipping (geckoes, night lizards, fossorial snakes) DTHs in the 60s is best. Start with small objects that heat up fast - small pieces of yucca, any cardboard or carpet or particleboard, small stones.
Another bonus to moving it back - maybe you don't lose any home-town prime time. I assume May is the best single month where you are.
My thoughts anyway. Happy to hear different.
Oh yeah - a great lizard book (especially if you're "splitty") is Lizards of the American Southwest. Kind of a field guide you leave in - or use from - the car. It's heavy and not all that robustly built, but it's detailed and complete. Take binoculars - 10/40s or -50s. Decent ones that will allow focus on objects quite near you - 10 feet or so.
Good hunting! Don't forget to buy your license.

Just an FYI, I am unsure this is a real posting. It appears to be a copy and paste from my post done a while ago. I linked my post below.....
My trip got pushed back a year so next May will be hitting it as an update to people who chimed in and aided my research step of the trip planning.

Oh that's funny, someone (or some Russian troll-bot! ha ha ha) recycled your post. Which I had answered at some length. As had Derek. I wonder what the implications of that might be...
Anyway, do your most fervent hoping for a decent winter. I think a La Nina is setting up, which is not helpful.
Good luck next spring.
