What a nice message to send out to the world. Another chump for trump, and interesting that 141 people looked at the post and didn’t condemn this idiot. Just the reference to shooting a protected species is cause enough to speak up.

What does President Trump have to with that vid ? Chumps against Trump is more to the point. This is a Click bait excuse for ignorant creeps to bash President-elect Donald Trump and conservatives. The phony outrage. OMG she pretended to shoot a snake. Now lets bash President Trump. Go melt snowflakes.

Ernie I’m too old to be a snowflake, I suggest u look up the definition so as to avoid improper use of the word, But I am old enough to know garbage when I see it. The Con using a protected species to illustrate her point is simply bad taste and sends a poor message. Like saying it’s ok to go trophy hunting in Africa which is about as macho as drowning puppies and kittens. Xox

Looks like your never too old to be an idiot. If you or anyone else feels the need to talk about politics on this forum post it on the board line. Why spam the main forum with your personal political agenda? Like I said the snake in the vid. was just an excuse for the snowflakes to spout off. You lost get over it.

Ernie let’s be clear, you inserted yourself into the discussion and directed your ire at me first, time stamps don’t lie.
Confront you over the years? I honestly don’t recall ever doing so, but perhaps I have called bs in the past, you would have to give me a reference point though.
I’ve worked my way through 3 college degrees so I am not prone to distraction, and I’ve also worked with and spent a lot of time in the field with the smart ones; such as professionals that have published papers, had a species named after them, or at the least contributed something meaningful to science such as my own research on desert pupfish. And I only dismiss those who do not have the wit to treat with me - so you may go.

These threads are always amusing. Sometimes I think people contribute to them simply to see how long the amusement will last before it finally fizzles out.

And I am always amazed that people actually care about the flippant comments of others on Internet forums. I find that most people, most decent people anyhow, would not and do not behave the same way when sitting around a table face to face with each other.

And it is oh so hilarious how just mentioning Trump regardless of context makes people react violently in one way or another.

He doesnt understand what he is writing sometimes which is also a misappropriation of the Grammar is Trivial idea.

When I shared this ad I really thought it would have brought everyone in here together. For some reason I forgot about Ernie and others. Although everyone in here loves snakes, it is very evident we love them for different reasons. So, are there any forums out there strictly on the conservation of Reptiles and Amphibians?

Both my adult sons belong to PARC, Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. I have met several members in recent years while in the field. The ones I met were good folks. They have an annual meeting or conference here in the U.S.
I believe it is an academic group of college students, teachers and professionals.

Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation: PARC
parcplace.org/
Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation is forging proactive partnerships to conserve amphibians, reptiles, and the places they live.

PARC is basically a collection of regional groups (SEPARC, SWPARC, etc) that somewhat resemble this description:
I believe it is an academic group of college students, teachers and professionals.
I would amend Craig's description to read:
It is a professional group of managers, academics, and students. Mostly managers, and some researchers. I haven't attended a meeting in years though (various reasons, none of them about PARC) - it's important to recognize and accept that all organizations evolve. Perhaps their participation is more diverse now? They wanted that, back then. Maybe they have gotten there - I'm dead positive it varies by regional group. A decade ago SEPARC and SWPARC were incredibly different, culturally speaking. One big difference was in the individuals from the state wildlife agencies participating, and in the orientation (positive / neutral / negative) of those agencies towards "herpers". Citizen science efforts like HERP and iNaturalist have helped soften some agencies towards herpers, and have probably helped the PARC regional groups diversify.

Here's PARC's self-description:
Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (PARC) is an inclusive partnership dedicated to the conservation of the herpetofauna–reptiles and amphibians–and their habitats. Our membership includes individuals from state and federal agencies, conservation organizations, museums, pet trade industry, nature centers, zoos, energy industry, universities, herpetological organizations, research laboratories, forest industries, and environmental consultants. The diversity of our membership makes PARC the most comprehensive conservation effort ever undertaken for amphibians and reptiles.
Getting back to your question, however - it is not a forum. There is no online forum there.
For some reason I forgot about Ernie and others.
And that's why there is no forum there - very few people can handle a forum, or to put it another way, online forums are not good for maintaining long-term positive group dynamics and relationships. Communication in professional groups - like PARC - is "old school and real": physical meetings to get the whole group together once a year, ~ monthly conference calls to advance and complete small-group taskings, and finally, as-needed 1:1 e-mails / phone calls / PMs / texts for more private conversations, or just to keep in touch.

SWCHR (http://www.southwesternherp.com/) used to have a forum where they vigorously enforced civility. I actually got called out once by Gerald, and I thought I was just being direct and honest (not "flamey" by any stretch of the imagination) with the guy I was trying to communicate with. So (thinking probably it wasn't a mutual fit) I just opted out of membership / participation. I appreciated the desire of the group, but...I don't know if they were able to keep their forum going. The organization of course still exists. Anyway - try there?

As for your original ad - don't sweat it. She's just an idiot talking to idiots; in all likelihood it will come to nothing whatsoever. Life lesson number 1 - "pay no attention to the idiot". That goes for some of the folks here too - you know who I mean. Life lesson number 2 - "don't play with toxic waste".
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”
I believe that. The evidence is too hard to ignore, let alone refute.

Oh, Lord No! God that's funny though.

I was speaking of the late Gerald McKeown. You're speaking of Gerry Binczik (or something like that). Totally different temperaments and online personas. GM was - in my limited experience anyway - a class act.

OTOH GB is in my opinion a no-holds-barred uber-flamer, the same kind the OP was decrying though he may have joined here too late to get to know him. When he was here - in my not-so-limited experience - GB would do or say anything to "win", no matter how loathsome or false - just the same as some folks still around here, as noted by the OP. (Amusing aside - some of those uber-flamers really seemed to hate each other. Too much in common I reckon, despite their differences.)

The thought of GB being the mod to enforce civility is a sick joke. He'd love the power, but would abuse the hell out of it, IMO. Thanks for the hiccuping belly-laugh though! Always appreciated!

Lol okay I had to make sure. I did get to know Gerry's antics a little before he disappeared (I guess he was banned?) and to be honest I was wondering if we would hear some stories of redeeming qualities. Funny thing: I always wondered what Gerry (gbin) looked like. I associated him with that Lorax avatar for so long I actually pictured him as such when typing. I guess it took the edge off the absurdity of his posts. Best to you as well.

I dunno if he was banned. With all the other crap that still flies here, you'd doubt that, wouldn't you? I would...I suspect he just...submerged into the mire. Or got busy with his new life in upstate NY, or VT, or wherever it was he relocated to from FL, or TX, or wherever.
wondering if we would hear some stories of redeeming qualities
Well that's the thing about real people isn't it? People are multidimensional, it isn't like bad TV, it's like good TV. There's always some redeeming quality or three. I think GB had some skills and successes in snake keeping, and shared what he knew. He is clearly both intelligent and educated, and he can put together some compelling trains of thought. We actually shared some interests and agreed on many positions. And of course we had some things we just did not see eye to eye on, as is "anthropologically normal", and perfectly acceptable in a liberal society (defined classically, not per the contemporary right) such as ours. But Ah Christ, his tactics. It was his utterly, utterly debased tactics - using every dirty trick in the book, stemming from a fundamental smallness of character, perhaps with a measure of some dark mental illness - that drove me to shun him. You kind of had to stroke him, or he'd bite.

Cheers to rational discourse, and mutual tolerance. And never mind the idiots.

I've been away for a few days and am catching up--need to clarify a couple of points:

1. SWCHR's forums disappeared when we switched web hosts a year and a half ago--saved a bunch of money for the organization, but the scripts are unreadable by the new server. :( Theoretically there is a way to retrieve the data (and there was some fantastic stuff on there), but it's beyond my level of expertise and I haven't been diligent in soliciting volunteer help (bigger priorities for the org). IF we successfully retrieve the forum content, it will probably become an archive-type board (i.e. no new posts, but the original info and discussions will remain intact). Too many other competing venues to warrant restoring posting ability.

2. Gerald Keown, founder of SWCHR, is very much alive, or at least was last weekend when I talked to him!
