A FIELD HERPER'S DREAM IS TO HAVE THE KIND OF PERFECT TIMING WHERE EVERY OUTING PRODUCES COOL HERPS. TO BE HONEST, ON THE FIRST OUTING OF THE YEAR I WILL BE HAPPY FINDING EVEN COMMON HERPS. MY SONS HAD BEEN BUGGIN ME TO GO FLIPPING. WE HAD SOME TIME. LUCKY FOR US IT HAD RAINED A BUNCH RECENTLY. WE WENT TO AN AREA WHERE IT IS REALLY EASY TO STRIKE OUT COMPLETELY, BUT WE IMMEDIATELY FOUND LIZARDS AND MICE. WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE, I KNEW BEFORE I SAW IT THAT WE HAD AT LEAST FOUND A GOPHER SNAKE BECAUSE OF THE LOUD HISSING.

UNDER THE SAME OBJECT WAS A BEAUTIFUL MILK

UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, THERE WAS ALSO A TIGER SALAMANDER

WE LATER FLIPPED 4 RACERS AND 11 MORE GOPHER SNAKES

Based on those herps, I am guessing you are in Southern Colorado?

We're in Utah, but I'd love to visit Colorado this time of year.

That's pretty cool, I know there are tiger salamanders in Colorado, didn't know there was a big population in Utah! Cool.

Yes, there are some nights in the fall when 100's of tiger salamanders are getting smashed on the road. It is a horrible sight.

Sounds like those roads need Ecopassages....
