Calotes in Florida??

Post by Carl98 »

Hello,
Up here in Jersey its been too cold for herping so I've been focusing a lot of my time on other projects instead of herps. I know, not a good excuse for a herper, lol  But I recently came across an article about Calotes versicolor in Port St. Lucie. When I was in south FL back in April of 2017 I tried looking based off what I had read from the FWC website, but this gave a more specific spot at 27.27896, -80.53818, which wasn't too far off from where I was looking. However, I couldn't find any other literature or post about this species in FL. I would've though there would be more of a "hunt" for these beautiful critters, "or maybe ist just my obsession with agamas". Anyway, has anybody seen these guys in FL, are they still around or have more info on them?

Anything's possible in South Florida nowadays. Unfortunately.

They were there historically - but I don't know of anyone finding them there in over a decade.

You certainly weren't too far from significant populations of African Rainbow Lizards (Agama agama), Northern Curly-tailed Lizard (Leiocephalus carinatus), and Brown Basilisks (Basiliscus vittatus), Carl.
