I was out hiking around Montezuma NWR last week and saw well over 100 painted turtles out basking within a relatively small area. What's the most turtles others have seen in one spot?

Large aggregation of painted turtles

I used to do a reptile census there for the USFWS. The painted turtles are everywhere. Hit it up next month or so and you'll see snapping turtles all over, too. The biggest one I've ever seen in my life was at MNWR.

Very nice!
In any one pond, most I have seen is about 50, mix of paints and blanding's turtles. But several hundred in a day across multiple wetlands.

Used to be a great place for waterfowl hunting back in the day.
