A few pictures from panama

Post by karmatsunami »

I don't think there is anything startling here but here are a few herps I have found (forgive me I know some of the common names but not the proper names)
Red eyed tree frog Agalychnis callidryas
Image
Boulenger's Snouted Treefrog (Scinax boulengeri)
Image
Northern Smoky Jungle Frog (Leptodactylus savagei)
Image
Common basilisk (Basiliscus basiliscus)
Image
Olive-snouted Treefrogs (Scinax elaeochrous)
Image
Green iguana (Iguana iguana),
Image
Yellow headed Gecko? Often redheaded here lol
Image
Veined Treefrog (Trachycephalus typhonius - used to be Phrynohyas venulosus if you have an older book)
Image
Common basilisk (Basiliscus basiliscus)
Image
A type of whip tail? Four-lined Ameiva (Holcosus quadrilineatus).
Image
I think this is a brown vine snake Oxybelis aeneus?

Cool stuff. Looks like an interesting trip.

A few IDs if you want -

First frog - correct - A. callidryas
Second Frog - hmmm....maybe Fitzinger's Robber Frog (Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri)
Third Frog - Northern Smoky Jungle Frog (Leptodactylus savagei)
Two yellow frogs - Yellow Treefrog (Dendropsophus microcephalus - used to be in genus Hyla) (I think...)
the last chunky treefrog - Veined Treefrog (Trachycephalus typhonius - used to be Phrynohyas venulosus if you have an older book)
Your whiptail is a young Ameiva (I don't remember which species are in Panama)

A nice assortment of herps. MonarchzMan is correct, the second frog is a Boulenger's Snouted Treefrog (Scinax boulengeri), the two yellow frogs are Olive-snouted Treefrogs (Scinax elaeochrous), and the lizard is a Four-lined Ameiva (Holcosus quadrilineatus). That deep, rich orange coloration on the head of the Yellow-headed Gecko is typical for that species from Panama. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you guys for your info I edited as I found out their id, I have had to look much harder than I expected especially for snakes and I haven't found any vipers or constrictors which surprized me since I am in a rural area, I can only assume I am just walking past them although from what I have seen generally they are killed on sight by locals. I have seen plenty of impressive spiders here though, several in the genus Phoneutria here.
