Sulawesi snake ID help!

Post by robbielab »

Hi! I'm hoping someone on here who's more familiar with Indonesian snakes than I might be able to help out with an ID!

Found this little fella in Tangkoko Reserve, North Sulawesi last week and, not having any reference books with me, haven't made a positive ID.
He's about 2 ft long, brown all over with yellowy-orange underside and keeled scales. Moving across the forest floor at dusk.

Oh, and this frog was on a twig about 3 ft above the snake's head... also no ID!!?

Thanks in advance!

Robbie,
Do you have any additional photos of the snake? It looks somewhat familiar but I can't quite make the connection. The frog is a Rhacophorid in the genus Polypedates, likely P. leucomystax.

Guess #1 on snake is Rhabdophis chrysargoides
#2 Xenochrophis trianguligerus

But like Paul said - other shots?

The only other shot I got before he disappeared into the undergrowth. I thought it might be a keelback so didn't try to grab it!

I'll stick with Rhabdophis chrysargoides.

Man! Tangkoko is great! I went there for my 30th. The other part was spent diving at Bunaken

Doesn't it look a bit thick-headed and patternless for a Rhabdophis Chrysargoides?
