Bittersweet Babies
Lost for over 40 years, and even thought extinct, last night's newborn litter of Crotalus lannomi in the HERP.MX assurance colony brings mixed emotions. Illegal mining destroyed the site where the parents were secured several years ago and the species was recently listed as a top viper conservation priority. We hope to have our C. lannomi habitat conservation project off the ground by the end of the season but it's hard to shake the feeling that it might be too little, too late.
