2016 OFFICER ELECTIONS - PLEASE VOTE

Post by Josh Holbrook »

Hey all,

So far there is only one nomination for each officer, so I'm enabling voting as a complete ticket, unless anyone has any objections. I'm looking forward to some new get togethers and education of the public in 2016.

-JDH

The ticket is: Josh Holbrook For President, Tamara D. McConnell for Vice President and IB Representative, and Simus343 for Education Specialist

Lord have mercy. 2 votes?
If I am the problem, I can withdraw, no prob. But let's keep this chapter going. It's not that hard to click "yes" or "no" or send Josh or me a pm telling what you want. C'mon, SE family. Please weigh in, one way or another.

I voted yea because I have the utmost opinion and respect for you all.

Except for a good occasional specific discussion on the chapter forum, most chapter interest seems to peak with an outing, albeit only for a short while.

I do wonder, however, if the "SE chapter" interest might be better served with an "outing coordinator" for each of the regions of SE, maybe even in lieu of traditional officers.

Sub-groups could have outings at times and places more in step with local schedules and/or where target herps are active, and anyone from elsewhere could attend.

Seems like better participation might be had with something like:
… A group like the FL peninsula?
… Likewise, a group from central/western KY/TN?
… Eastern SC, NC, GA?
… Maybe western NC/eastern TN/north GA?
… Mississippi/Alabama/ FL panhandle?

I agree with this but maybe expand the mixing a little bit. I'd be as willing to travel to GA as I would anywhere in MS minus the bottom region, which would be close-ish to me. From where I am, De-Soto National Forest is approx the same linear distance as the ANF.

Bill, I like this idea a lot.
Is it viable? Or will we will have somebody going all legalistic obnoxious on us and saying we have to have x number of officers and blah blah blah?
The outings are what keep our members connected, and are what build relationships. I totally endorse your idea. If we can do this and still retain our chapter status, I'm on board 100%.

Ditto that. I would love to help out in office one day, but for now, I've got too much going on.

And Bill, I really like that idea as well. I think it is definitely something worth looking into.

Thanks to everybody for participating and making this subforum work so well. It is a good one- and that is evidenced because I see it being mentioned in the other forums (and other websites!).

Shouldn't be a problem. Who wants to volunteer - I'm planning on putting together another Salamania for 2016, and hopefully one other for the whole SE family, but if we had an outing coordinator for more trips, that'd be swell.

Barys - my records on HERP all have my name on them so it's not like I'm trying to keep it secret haha. I've been trying to change my FHF name to my actual name, but I can't seem to figure that out.

As far as outings, if school is going well when the outing for the entire chapter comes around I'd be game to go almost anywhere in our chapter. TN and NC are a bit out of reach for me, but all the other states I think I could do - if school is going well (trying to get good grades for grad school acceptance).

I have no real bias to "targets" but I think it would be nice to move to a new state each year in our region to cycle through them, unless there is an over-whelming desire from a lot of people to go to a particular state.

Somehow never saw this until it was too late, but I feel like we got great officers out of it anyway. I'll join the chorus of folks approving of Bill's outing coordinator idea. Undoubtedly, there are more qualified folks in my state, but I'd be willing to help coordinate something for central and/or northeast Alabama, the areas I know best as far as herps go.

Thanks for voting all. I'm just getting over a flu, so I'll update the officer list, etc. (and unsticky this thread) soon. Looking forward to a new year of NAFHAwesomeness.
