Hello, herpy people. It's been a while since I visited here. But as I sit here on my Thanksgiving holiday weekend, too full to move, it occurs to me this might be a good time to catch up. Perhaps, you are also too full to move, and would enjoy seeing some photos of animals we all love? Well I will indulge you then. What will follow will be some of my finds since May, which I believe was the last time I posted.

Omigosh, your photos are so beautiful! Love the crote photos, especially. You have a great artistic eye with them.

I like the gila monster myself. The alligator in front of your house is pretty too.

If I ever saw a gila in real life, I'd have to be sedated. Holy cow. Great find!

Ha-ha Tamara, make mine a 'double' (I'd have to be sedated too I think) Yep, those are some great shots Bree. I really love that incredible grayish Hognose. That specimen is a real stunner!!! I'd love to see more pics of that one??? Thanks for posting.

Very nice pics you took there. I always enjoy smaller EDBs, they still have a lot of good color contrast making them super pretty snakes. Everyone seems to be hyped about the gila. Don't get me wrong, I love gila monsters and beaded lizards, but when it comes to legged reptiles I'm more of an Alligator guy myself . If I find an alligator I can sit and watch it all day. Your lucky to have a lake/pond to view them in near your house. All I have is an overgrown swamp that makes it very hard to see the gators in there haha.
Dave's comment about the grey hognose got my mind running. The photographed one looks just like my male use to look, as he aged (was a sub-adult when I got him) he turned to a dull ashy black. I wish he had stayed grey like in that photo of the one you found Bree .

Great posts. Makes me wish I could spend more time in the low country. Did you hike up those cottons or do you find it's easier to encounter them from a paddle craft?

Dave, I do have other pics on my cell phone, but too much trouble to try to post here. If you haven't seen it already, check out this video of the hog on my Flickr account.

Kyle, those cottons were in a roadside ditch. There was a piece of plywood at the top of the ditch, which I flipped to find the smaller of the two you see pictured. It wasn't until that snake flipped itself down the bank that I noticed the big mama stretched out by the water. That got me looking around and I spotted a third swimming in the water a few feet away.

Simus, I am very fortunate to live on a large river. I see 2 alligators regularly, and a variety of snake species, but usually only have my phone on me for pics, so I post more on FB and Instagram these days.

Thanks for the comments, Tamara! I try my best to take interesting pics when I can. And yes, finding a gila is always a great experience. I have herped AZ four times, and been blessed to find gilas all four times. It never gets old.
