Almost every day for a month = NOTHING...!
I check naherp almost daily, specifically above States, and I'm just NOT seeing anyone post rattlesnake vouchers.

Its definitely been slow with the cool wet weather. When things warm up I think there will be a lot of snakes moving in my area.

John,
In the last 30 days I've posted 3-4 each of atrox, cerastes, and pyrrhus to NAHERP- I can only burn so much gas

Owen ... I located four (4) rattlesnakes in April and zero (0) in May. I went out 7 days in April.Owen wrote:I saw this 3-1/2 footer retreat under the edge of a log today...
Some others from this Spring.
April; 2 Gopher Snakes, an 8" Pond Turtle on a lost lonely dirt road, Am. Bullfrogs, Mt. Racer (DOA), Mt. Garter, and a CA Whiptail.
Went out 11 days in May.
May; An Alligator Lizard, a Gopher Snake and King Snake -- zero rattlesnake.
Your pic above is similar to a rattler I found in April. He was sunning in a clump of grass in a small field ... I fired off two in situ shots and he was alerted to me ... then he cut across the grass headed for the brush about 15' away I grabbed a couple action shots. He did not perceive me as a threat, he did not rattle or stand me off in defensive posture.
I did not touch this rattler ... hard for me not to handle them, but I am getting accustomed to in situ. Actually, it's really very exciting to sneak up close and they don't know you are there, or ... maybe they know, but don't care.
I named this one 'SONNY' - Northern Pacific Rattlesnake / Crotalus oreganus oreganus / Lake County & Mendocino County

I see at least one almost every time I head out into the Diablo Range or SC Mountains here in the SF Bay Area. Year round.
