The past few years in Alabama (and the southeast)

Post by Matt Arnold »

Wow, I haven't posted anything on here in a couple years. A have posted a lot of my findings in the facebook group, but i'll go ahead and post on here as well. I did not get out a lot in 2013 and 2014 due to being so busy, but i'm off to a pretty good start in 2015. Some of the stuff was found in late 2012. But anyways, here goes...

Late 2012 I went down to Mobile, Alabama to visit with Tamara and Raymond. I am very grateful to be friends with them and always appreciate their hospitality. We had a great weekend in October with plenty of stuff to find.

Cottonmouth found on the road

We drove over to Mississippi one evening to look for Green Waters and Salt Marsh's

This one had some interesting patterning..

We also shined this Rough Green

Went flipping the next morning, got a Speckled King, a Corn, a Rat, a Racer, and some Ribbons...

Back in North Alabama, Chris Montross and I found this Juvenile Rat Snake in late October

As said previously, I did not get out much in 2013, but I did take a trip up to the dens to look for Rattlesnakes in June. Only found 1..

In spring of 2013 I went to a couple power cuts and found a few kings -

Later in June of 2013, Tamara passed through the area so I took her out to look for sallies. Not the ideal time of year, so we struck out on Sallies. Tamara managed to find this gem in a bluff though!

Went to the swamp with her as well, she shined this Midland Water swimming around. A cottonmouth was found as well (not shown)

I did not make it out much in Spring of 2014, but I flipped this little Ringneck early in the year.

Summer came and road cruising was a bit more productive..

I was told about a cool spot for Red Milks in the summertime, and it did not dissappoint.

Late later summer of 2014 I made another couple trips up to the dens for Rattlesnakes. A few were found but did not get photos due to them being tucked in rocks.. I did get a couple shots of other things though, like Anna Ruby falls, a Black Rat, a couple Copperheads, and a Garter Snake

In October of 2014 I went down to the ANF for a weekend to look for EDB's. It was a fun trip bad sad at the same time, this was the only EDB found..

Live snakes were found though

I have had a bit more time this spring of 2015 - one day a friend and I went flipping on power cuts and a few hours had went by and we were already up to 8 Black Kingsnakes..

That corn is a monster! I would love to see one like that. And, of course, the milks are stunning. Thanks for sharing.

I've never had an 8 king day. I think I'd probably have to be sedated.
Wonderful post, Matt. It was fun reliving memories and exciting to see your rattlesnakes. That big timber is magnificent.
Come on back anytime.
