Early Spring So Far, Long Island, NY!

Post by NewYorkHerper16 » April 9th, 2015, 7:28 am

It took quite a while for Spring to arrive here, but it's finally here! It seemed like winter would never end, but all of a sudden the weather took a very sudden (and welcome!) turn for the better.
Here's some of the critters I've had the pleasure to find in the last 2 weeks!

I got an idea from Flickr to paint the back side of a thin sheet of glass black, and it works wonders for in-the-field photography! The one I've got is only about the size of a piece of computer paper, so it's easy to carry and makes for some really cool photos!

I've also seen bullfrogs, green frogs, and pickerel frogs but haven't got any decent photos of them yet.

As I was scrolling down past your Pine Warbler shot, for a split second I thought "no way did you find a Prothonotary Warbler in early April!" That thing is ridiculously yellow. Nice shots.

Thanks guys!
MCHerper -yeah i'm really lucky that they were still there when i finally got to my favorite vernal pool! There were hundreds! Best of luck to herping with you too!

cbernz -thanks! Lol when my birder friend spotted it in the field, she said the same thing about it being ridiculously yellow! I hate warblers since i can't ID them for the life of me, but this one was absolutely gorgeous!

Love the second peeper shot!
That is by far the brightest pine warbler I've ever seen. Great stuff all around :thumb:
