My 2014 Photo review

Post by frogfish »

Since it's that time of year...

But instead of spamming with photos, I will just list my top finds and pics. Feel free to peruse my flickr and facebook (send me a request) if you wish to see more cool stuff.

Fave reptile find of the year was the two Northern Pinesnakes (Pituophis melanoleucus) I cruised in a day in North Carolina. Although not the rarest nor prettiest snake I saw this year, it was nice to get one of the holy grails of NC herping. An NC pine was definitely at the top of my list coming into this year.

*I was allowed to legally handle these snakes under the purview of a state biologist. Pine Snakes are threatened in NC and should not be molested in any way*

Fave reptile pic of the year. This one was hard to choose, but I had to go with a North Carolina Eastern Coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum) periscoping in the tall grass...

Fave Amphib find. This one is easy...while Hellbenders are my favorite, my most satisfying find of the year was FINALLY finding an NC endangered Green Salamander (Aneides aeneus). To top it off, I found 3 specimens that night!

Fave amphib shot. Spotlight on the NC state-threatened Pine Barrens Treefrog (Hyla andersonii).
