Hi everyone,
I took a 1 hour herp break today, finding a very green-shaded rattlesnake in the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area. Anyone know what this is?
Thanks,
Mariya

We only have Crotalus oreganus oreganus (Northern Pacific Rattlesnake) in the Bay Area. Of course, they come in all sorts of colors and green is one of them. Check these:

Yeah, I assumed it was a Northern Pacific, but WOW, this was green.
Since I am on a tablet right now and can't share the pictures any other way, here is the individual post where I placed the pictures:

Sorry about the outside link, just trying to determine how regular this coloration is.

That one strikes me as extra-green, too. Very cool looking snake

Nor Pac for sure. Up above Placerville that color is common as well as a deeper green. They look quite beautiful. Congrats on a beautiful snake. I never did find one when I lived in the north bay (Novato)

Absolutely gorgeous NorPac.
Great blog, also!
Even cooler is that you photographed it feeding on a Sceloporus!
Checked out your blog- it is funny, I know exactly where your blog's main photo was taken, and I bet the green rattlesnake was from there!
Lots of Rattlesnakes at that spot! Watch your step and hands when flipping the debris!

By the way, your spider is actually a Solpugid aka Camel Spider.
Funny, I found one today as well under a rock in the East Bay.
You can check out the spider, as well as my other Bay Area herping finds, at http://www.zacharge.tumblr.com

I just replied to the two PM's that were sent to me. It seems that the setting for notifications is on, but I might be looking at the wrong thing...
