Northeast in situ thread

Post by ZantiMissKnit »

I thought I would start a thread where we can post some in situ shots. Just purely in situ, not "as flipped" or "posed"; I'm going to start other threads for that.

Nerodia sipedon sipedon, Northern Water Snake. The snake is in the same position as when we first saw it, but Mike managed to get around to the other side so we could get photos from both angles.

I tried to get a bit closer and spoiled the mood; the snake turned and went back towards the water.

From the same day, Clemmys gutatta, Spotted Turtle, chilling on the bank.

This was from a lunchtime walk a few weeks ago. It was the first time I had never seen browns at this spot, as well as seen them mating. Very cool!

Here was another neat experience. In one glimpse, I doubled my life time Wood Turtle observations. These are exactly as found, and I did a walk by 3.5 hours later and they were still there, although a little closer together under the vegetation.

Here's a male Red-spotted Newt periscoping at the bottom of a vernal. No doubt on the lookout for rivals and mates.
