The Island Night Lizard, Xantusia (Klauberina) riversiana is now off the Endangered Species list. With an estimated population size of 21.7 million, there are more Island Night Lizards now than there were people in California in the early 1970s. The Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that threats no longer exist, and, to paraphrase their lengthy analysis, we have Island Nights up the butt...

Re: Krap-load of Klauberina
I'm scared of the date of the announcement (April Fools' Day), but I've heard about the mind-bogglingly high numbers of these lizards recently from other sources.
Some of the online pics I've seen of them indicate some high variability in the patterns...would be neat to be able to legally work with them. I've always had a soft spot for night lizards, but haven't had the chance to keep any of the vigilis series, let alone X/K. riversiana.

Re: Krap-load of Klauberina
I once told a homeless dude he should let me check under his mattress for legless lizards, cause they will crawl up his butt when he sleeps. was that wrong?
They're (the Feds) also talking bout reducing protection for Arroyo Toads from Endangered to Threatened...

I have to believe they're bowing to 'development demands'... like from Los Flores Ranch, who want to build 9,000 homes in Arroyo/WPT habitat... jim

I don't think I am on board with the Toads..
I would be very interested in hearing Dr Sam Sweet's take on that.
