Garter snake eating crabs?

Post by kwheelz »

Has anyone here ever seen a garter snake on the coast eating a crab? I just saw a Coastal garter snake entry from CA that makes me think that is a possibility. Sorry, I have not scoured the literature.

Wandering garters are known to eat crayfish inland, so I would not be surprised.

In WA it is common to see ordinoides and pickeringii (also alligator lizards) just above the high water line at beaches along Puget Sound. I have yet to see one out in the intertidal zone.
