Re: ID help on Pantanal geckos
#2 I'm fairly convinced is the introduced Hemidactylus mabouia with a partially regenerated tail.
#1 I'm les certain of but I believe it is a juvenile of same species.

What's a good resource for Hemidactylus ID?

For those of us in the Americas, most Hemidactylus are introduced species, and most are known from Florida [with the Sri Lankan H.parvimaculatus just recorded from New Orleans]. There was a paper a while back which provided a key to Florida species...I'll see if I can track down a link [found it]. The New Orleans record may also be helpful:

Hemidactylus actually appear to have reached the Americas in their "own" accord far prior to the Columbian Exchange. Several species in Latin America are considered native, though H. frenatus, garnotii, playurus, and turcicus are not among them. H. mabouia, however, might be... and at least one species is endemic to South America. Tarentola also found their way to the New World without our "help".FrogO_Oeyes wrote:For those of us in the Americas, most Hemidactylus are introduced species, and most are known from Florida [with the Sri Lankan H.parvimaculatus just recorded from New Orleans].
