End of the Year 2013... #9 - HERP IN HABITAT

(Copied from theme #1... See below for theme #9 guidelines)

Hey guys,

I have a list of different threads I'm gonna start, spreading them out every few days. Each one will have a different theme. I would appreciate if you'd follow the rules (more like guidelines) just to keep it fun. eg. Ya know how people put up "Post your favorite picture of the year" threads, and people HAVE to put up like three pictures. Let's pay attention and try to stick to the rules. As winter creeps in, I will keep starting new threads and we can have fun with this while we look out the window at the leafless trees with tears in our eyes. If you have any ideas, feel free to PM me. Of course, I don't care if you start your own "themed" thread, but I was taking it upon myself to plan out these threads over the next few weeks as I have seen the forum die off along with the herping. *Don't let these "End of the Year" threads have any effect on any end of the year summary posts y'all were planning on doing. These will all have specific themes. I'm also hoping this will bring some of the non-posters out of the woodwork to share a photo or two. (You know who you are.). It's an opportunity to just share photos with peers, despite our herping/conservational differences. I don't mean to call you guys out and mean no offense. Just think about sharing here and there if you can with sound mind. I look forward to everyone's posts. Let's make this fun because its getting boring outside!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theme 9: HERP IN HABITAT

1. Go back through your finds over the year and find any shots you have that show a habitat in the photo.

2. Post your favorite five shots maximum. Make an effort to post one of each herp group from the NE (Frogs, Salamanders, Lizards, Turtles, Snakes). If you simply don't have one of each (eg. Because your name is Kyle and you refuse to touch anything), you can still use five pictures but no more than three from the same herp group.

3. These can be either posed or en situ shots. The focus is primarily on the animal and its habitat. *There will be an en situ thread at some point. Feel free to discuss whether it was posed, en situ, or omit details as deemed necessary.

4. Feel free to be as kosher (turtle on a log in a pond) or as creative (ringneck in a shingle pile) as you wish. Anything goes, but describe why you chose what you did if your instincts tell you others will question your choice.

5. Most importantly, please use discretion with sensitive species and identifiable landmarks. *No coastals posed on the Atsion Lake sign.

Ok, Hab at it...

Two of these pics are animals from other topics. My pictures aren't as clear as I'd like them to be but....

Sidewinder I flipped during the summer while looking for lizards. I followed lizard tracks to this board that was randomly tossed in the middle of the sand. I liked the pic, especially the beetle staring at me as well. Winder submerged in sand.......
Image

Desert tortoise from earlier topic leaving her burrow to walk the desert flats in the summer morning.
Image

Found some lifer Two Striped Garter snakes in the mountains during the springtime. This one dove into the stream and I waited for it to come up out of its hiding spot in the underwater vegetation.
Image

Yellow-backed Spiny Lizard in Nevada in its typical habitat. Shot from a distance before it scurried.......
Image

Nevada Speck from previous topic as found in its rocky hangout........

A tough challenge for me this time... I'm so keen on getting all up their grills for photos. So if you'll indulge me, I'll add a few favorites from this year... common though they may be...

A plethora of pictas!

I just love this one for some stupid reason. Just a Bullfrog noggin poking out, but he looks so content.
