These are some examples of what I've been finding in late summer up until now. It's been an awesome season and it's still not over. I'm excited to announce that this will be my last post of photos made with a cell phone as I am purchasing a DSLR in the very near future . The following animals are in no particular order.
Cemophora coccinea
Coluber constrictor
Plethodon chattahoochee
Crotalus horridus
Chelydra serpentina
Ambystoma opacum
Heterodon platirhinos
Desmognathus conanti
Storeria dekayi
Thamnophis sirtalis
Gopherus polyphemus
Pantherophis alleghaniensis
Agkistrodon piscivorus
Eurycea quadridigitata
Ophisaurus ventralis
Hemidactylium scutatum
Sistrurus miliarius barbouri
Lampropeltis elapsoides
Pantherophis guttatus
Crotalus adamanteus
Thanks for looking.

I like 'em, especially the baby snapper and gopher tortoise. A post complete with all the rattlers in the area is cool too. I need to get on the larger counterparts.

So many beautiful animals! Great diversity! My favorites are the snapper hatchling, the yellow gopher, and the EDB.

Looking forward to seeing some totally awesome images from your new camera.

Got a 60D earlier this year and I cannot complain.
I like the kingsnake and the scarlet snake. Those things elude me.

You live in Florida so it's just a matter of time. I can cruise up scarlet snakes somewhat regularly but this SK was very special as it was my 2nd ever and only a short drive from my home in west central Georgia.captainjack0000 wrote: I like the kingsnake and the scarlet snake. I have seen both before, but not with the regularity that I want.
I have a few leads for kingsnakes for the spring, so only time will tell.

Great stuff.
It is interesting that a lot of neonate gopher tortoises are showing up in recent years that have goofed up scutes like the one in your photograph. The general theory to this is that the females are nesting right out on their burrow bibs where the incubation temperatures are usually higher--thus the supernumerary scutes. Or it could be something else but regardless, there does seem to be an increase in the number of hatchling gopher tortoises that possess abnormal carapace scutes.
Also jealous of the brand new common snapper! How come I can't find one???

I have observed tortoise eggs at the entrance of a burrow. They were actually partially exposed. I know little about tortoise reproduction but I didCarl D. May wrote:Great stuff.
