Fall has come too quickly this year, and snakes should be going into hibernation in about a month or so. Here's just a rundown of everything I've found since mid-July.
Prairie Kingsnake Lampropeltis calligastor
Blue Racer Coluber constrictor foxii
Black Rat Snake Pantherophis obsoletus
Dekay's Brown Snake Storeria dekayi
That's all from my tin site. I went to look for Graham's in late July, but stuck out. I did find this guy though.
Yellow-bellied Watersnake Nerodia erythrogaster flavigaster
Although these guys are pretty common in the cypress swamps in the southern tip of Illinois, they are rare when go farther north.
Dane and I then went out to one tin site that has many copperheads. We found one stunning copperhead, but unfortunately he lost it in high grass.
Northern Copperhead Agkistrodon contortrix mokasen
We also barely missed a Black Rat Snake on the way home, but it was okay.
In mid-August we decided to go to the glades. Although the weather was nice, it hadn't rained in a while.
Anyway Dane was able to find this though:
Speckled Kingsnake Lampropeltis getula holbrooki
Without this find we the day was a waste. We found a few box turtles, lizards, tons of scorpions and tarantulas, and one ringneck snake.
Three-toed Box Turtle Terrapene carolina triunguis
Southern Coal Skink Plestiodon anthracinus pluvialis
Habitat
Here is some more random stuff I thought I'd throw in.
Northern Water Snake Nerodia sipedon
Eastern Garter Snake Thamnophis sirtalis
Eastern Box Turtle Terrapene carolina carolina
Those guys were sharing the same piece of tin.
Eastern Fence Lizard Sceloporus undulatus
That's all. I'll be heading down to Snake Road in a couple weeks to do some hardcore herping with some awesome people!

Sweet pictures man!

Nice shots, I liked a lot of these. You must be hitting Southern Illinois more than Northern Illinois? I don't see many of these critters up near me.

Thanks everybody!
I haven't been herping in Northern Illinois, all of this is from the St. Louis area.justinm wrote:Nice shots, I liked a lot of these. You must be hitting Southern Illinois more than Northern Illinois? I don't see many of these critters up near me.
