Hello AZ. My brother is currently in AZ. Found an atrox or 2 last night. Just about an hour ago I get some texts about a large blue and green snake. One of the coolest snakes he's seen. He coudn't get any pics as it moved fast. He saw it for a few minutes as it moved from bush to bush, and eventually under some logs. He's in the mountains just west of the 92. Around 6000. Sky Islands I think. Ramsey Canyon.
Anyways, have you guys seen a snake like this before? Can you post some pics if you have? He says it was around 5 ft in length.
Thanks, Lou

Sounds like a Sonoran Whipsnake to me (Masticophis bilineatus). I've seen some REALLY pretty ones...Turqouise anterior sections, lemon yellow posterior sections. They get big too, and a 5ft snake is a good sized adult.
Nice find!

Regalringneck, that is by far the prettiest Sonoran whip I've ever seen.
I've never seen them without the white stripes, either.

I think those are racers, not whipsnakes.

Aha. That would explain the yellow bellies and no stripes. I thought we were still on whipsnakes.
Regalringneck, I'm not impressed anymore.

Man, I wish I had some photos of racers to share. Come to think of it, there are lots of things I wish I had photos of.
I've seen two smooth greens and photographed one. (Note: poison ivy + little green bolt of lightning = itchy frustration and failed photo-op. ) I posted photos of the one on here somewhere...
