Biggest snake you have flipped under a rock?
I was just wondering how many of you have been lucky enough to flip a racer or any other big snake under a rock.. For me all I ever find under rocks is Ringnecks, Worm snakes, Smooth earth snakes and Redbellys....

And I was just going to say a 4 foot gopher snake....
Re: Biggest snake you have flipped under a rock?
I was going to say about a 2.5-3 foot rattler, more than once (rubers). But yeah, the boa wins.
Re: Biggest snake you have flipped under a rock?
I flipped a 5' plus black rat once.
Re: Biggest snake you have flipped under a rock?
Do you have pics? I saw at least 7 boas there a number of years ago, but the camera was lost on that same trip and I don't have any pics at all. The rainforest there is unparalleled. I really want to go back especially after Jeff Lemm posted about going there not too long ago.Terry Vandeventer wrote:A nine foot long Boa constrictor nebulosa on the Island of the Commonwealth of Dominica, 1990.

Re: Biggest snake you have flipped under a rock?
I flipped 3 specks under one (big) rock once...two 3 ft females and a nearly 4 ft male, who exhibited 'den defense' behavior... reared up like a cobra and came at me...
My arm was in a sling, from my last helli bite and all I had with me was my camera and snakehook... still managed these shots...
Male...
females...
All three...
I've grown (herp-wise) since then and wouldn't consider disturbing a den, for the sake of getting pics... most all my crote shots nowadays are insitu...
Flipped these two half an hr later, at the same outcrop...
3 snakes instead of one, under one rock... but ten ft total length... jim

Justin,
I don't want to get too far off topic. All but one of the boas (12) were under or in piles of volcanic rock. One was simply crawling in rainforest. All of my photos are slides, but the biggest female is pictured on page 210 of Dick Ross's "Reproductive Husbandry of Boas and Pythons."

Yeah, I was gonna go with 5ft timber rattle snake, but I think 9ft boa wins.

Terry wins on sheer 'footage", but I'll take the EDB any day! Sorry Terry, but boas just don't excite me... I do have to give credit where credit is due though and congratulate you on finding such an animal via flipping.Mulebrother wrote:5ft plus EDB once.

Re: Biggest snake you have flipped under a rock?
I flipped a rock with Chad W. once that had over 60 ringnecks, so combined they would have been huge. My biggest would likely be a Black Rat that was over 5'.
