It’s About Time I Introduced This Guy

Post by MichaelCravens »

Meet Fielding Cravens, he was born December 10th here in our home in Phoenix, Arizona. I’m certain he will be a staple in my future herping posts. We’ve already been practicing for the upcoming field season. In fact, he turned six weeks old recently on his first backpacking trip.

To keep on topic, below is two of three rufipunctatus I found on a creek walk this past fall.

The confused look on his face makes me think: "Whoa, wait a second. You go out of your way to FIND snakes, rather than to avoid them, and as I grow up, you will want me to do the same thing? Are all adults this stupid?"

Haha, now THAT is starting them out young! And I love the irony (intentional or not) in his first name :D Congrats to you and your wife, and may you all have many happy outings together in the future.

It might be a bit early to play match-maker, but my little lady thinks Fielding is a catch! ;)

Thank you all very much! I'm a very proud, and tired, new dad.

His name has nothing to do with fieldherping, although it fits my hobby nicely He was named after my grandfather's best friend, Fielding Chandler. He was big name in scouting and lived to be the oldest scout ever at one hundred something. My grandfather was bedridden with MS so he took it upon himself to take my brother and I hiking or paddling every single weekend for as long as I can remember. I owe my obsession with all things natural to the man.

Berkeley,

Congratulations to you too! It's exhausting, Eigh?

Dan,

Let's make this happen. Think of the family picnics! we'd be awesome grandpas.

To you new first time parents it only gets better and better. Michael I can't imagine a better person to teach Fielding about how to have a deep appreciation and understanding of the natural world.

Beautiful children. Congrats Michael and Dan. Those kids got the look. I think their future bright and the future of fieldherping looks like it is in good hands. Cravens, it looks like you got the jump on everyone with Fielding and the trips you guys take. He will thank you one day for being such as awesome dad. I did not start taking my daughter with me into the field until she was about 5 years old. Now I can not imagine not taking her. She is the center of my soul. We are some blessed fathers.

RocK ON!

Justin,

I hope you're right, because much of the night he looks like this

Dave,

Thank you! I look forward to him getting big enough to get around on his own two feet, but until then, I don't mind toting him.

Dan,

We can do that.

Matt,

Thanks, it wont be long before get some herping in. I flipped a patchnose the other day but unfortunately didn't have the boy with me.
