I'm thinking about a trip to Brazil's Pantanal. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with time of year to go to see the most diversty of herps.
I'm hoping January or February are good times. Thanks
I was there in August (dry season) of 1996 when I was 14 and didnt see much in the way of herps, but didnt do a whole lot of looking either. I saw iguanas, a treefrog at the lodge, and a snake that I now think was a Leptophis. And of course 100's of caiman. Here are two scanned photos from that trip:

Re: best time to visit the Pantanal?
Hi,
The pantanal is the best! If you can, September and October are awesome. Just when it starts raining, herps will pick up their activity levels. If you go in the rainy season, look on the hammocks and on banks of the raised roads, as critters will be concentrated there. For mammals, the dry season is best, as you can just set up a blind by one of the smaller and more remote watering holes, and see tons.
Best,
Alex
