South Florida Snake advice?

Post by intermedius »

Any tips for the southern area near the Atlantic Side at this time? Just looking for anything- from a Racer to a EDB or Mangrove Watersnake. Should I road cruise? Or flip palms?

If you go through mangroves you're probably only going to get 3 species at best, because of the water and its visabiility and mangrove's thickness.

Mangrove watersnakes, Atl croc populations and an anole or two out of the water is what I've found. But seaturtles and Fl East coast DBT's are there too, just hard to spot.

Would Mangroves reach past Miami-Dade, and how would you reccomend finding/spotting them? I've heard they are more active in low tide so should I try to cruise for them/head out near night.

They're found up to Brevard county on the east coast. The best way to find them is paddling at low tide.

I've got to agree with John - I wrote the guide specifically with herpers in mind and it has separate sections on both herping methods that are good in Florida as well as places that are good for herping.
