Well I managed to drag the girlfriend along on a hiking (herping) trip a couple weeks back. The weather was amazing for our holiday long weekend!
The scenery was great!
Quite often there were too many rocks to flip.
But that was OK because snakes were moving. Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum
But it was mostly just the common stuff.
We saw lots of pretty orchids; this Yellow Lady Slipper (Cypripedium parviflorum) was being guarded by what I believe to be a species of Crab Spider.
In some places we had to watch our step.
Watersnakes were getting busy all over the rocks.
Spectacular coastline...
made for some fantastic views!
And a long ways down if you weren't careful.
This milksnake was very comfortable basking at the edge of a sheer drop.
Some Ontario herpers maybe be wondeing why certain species are missing from this post. Quite frankly I am too!
Thanks for looking!
Jon

Great post Jon, my favourite spot in Ontario as a matter of fact. I would have thought there would be some saugas in there .
Were you able to make it out to Flowerpot Island?

Was that Pukaskwa National Park on Lake Superior? That is quite an amazing area. I'd love to go canoeing there.

Dan we did make it to flowerpot island. Did you hear about the "new turtles" there? No sign of Saugas.. I think it was too hot.
Maarten it is Lake Huron but probably looks a bit similar in some photos.

Love that milksnake hanging out by the cliff edge! Looks like you could just sit down with him/her and enjoy the beautiful day together.

New turtles on Flowerpot Island? I've only seen maps there I'm afraid, but I'd be interested to hear more .Jon Wedow wrote:Dan we did make it to flowerpot island. Did you hear about the "new turtles" there? No sign of Saugas.. I think it was too hot.

O, I was just surprised at how tall the cliffs were. I thought that was more typical of Lake Superior. Niiice..
